Commissioner's Office Spokesperson's Remarks on Macao Annual Report 2019 Released by the EU
2020/07/23

Q: The EU released its Macao Annual Report 2019 on July 22. What is your comment?

A:The report disregards the facts of Macao's political, social and economic developments, and is full of nonobjective and biased comments. We are firmly opposed to it.

Over the past 21 years since the return of Macao, the practice of "one country, two systems" with Macao's characteristics has gained remarkable achievements. Macao SAR has maintained long-term prosperity and stability, made progress in all fields of development, and its residents enjoy rights and freedoms in accordance with the law. Against all this, the EU makes irresponsible and baseless comments again and again on Macao affairs with so-called “ Macao Annual Report” which grossly interferes in China's internal affairs. We urge the EU immediately stop such acts which violate the basic norms of international relations and harm China-EU relations.
