On 2 February 2020, Acting Commissioner Wang Dong met with Consul General of Portugal in the Macao SAR Mr. Paulo Cunha Alves, exchanging views on issues of mutual concern.
Acting Commissioner Wang said, in the fight against Covid-19, the friendship between the Chinese and Portuguese people grew even deeper and the China-Portugal Comprehensive Strategic Partnership became even stronger through mutual understanding and support. Despite the pressure from the pandemic, Macao embraces new opportunities in external exchanges and cooperation in the context of its deep integration into China’s development as a whole, with the focus on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Wang expressed the hope that Mr. Alves could make continuous efforts to advance the practical cooperation between Portugal and Macao, and help Macao leverage its strengths of a platform connecting the two. Wang also introduced the outcome of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the substance of the Special Address of President Xi Jinping at the World Economic Forum of the Davos Agenda.
Mr. Alves spoke highly of the China-Portugal relations and the anti-epidemic cooperation between the two sides, and expressed the willingness to further promote Portugal’s exchanges and cooperation with Macao in the new era.
