On May 25, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macao SAR and the Macao SAR Government jointly held the finals of the 5th Macao Universities Diplomatic Speech Contest with the theme of “Macao Youth Shining on the International Stage, Merging Chinese and Western Cultures to Create a New Chapter” at the Macao University of Tourism. Commissioner Mr. Liu Xianfa, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ms. O Lam, and the representatives of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, the People’s Liberation Army Macao Garrison, the Macao SAR Education and Youth Development Bureau attended the event and presented awards to the winners. Over 250 teachers and students from 8 SAR universities, youth associations, and student representatives watched the competition on site.

Secretary Ms. O Lam said in her remarks that the students’ speeches represent the understanding of Macao youth on the theory of building a community with a shared future for mankind, and carry the hope for a greater role of Macao on the international stage. The Macao SAR Government will continue to deepen cooperation with the Office of the Commissioner and universities in Macao, promote youth diplomacy projects, support young people in pursuing their dreams, and increase their knowledge and hone their skills through international exchanges.

Commissioner Mr. Liu Xianfa encouraged the Macao youth to bear President Xi's earnest instructions and expectations in mind, serve as a bridge between China and other countries, share Macao’s stories and China’s stories to the world, and make contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind. The Macao Universities Diplomatic Speech Contest has achieved fruitful outcomes in the past five years. The Commissioner’s Office will continue to support Macao youth in exerting their talents to make more achievements on the international arena.

Ms. Chen Ruoqing, Mr. Yang Ziheng, Ms. Hu Jialu, and Ms. Huang Guanmiao from University of Macau, Academy of Public Security Forces, Macau University of Science and Technology, and Macao University of Tourism won the first, second, third, and fourth prize respectively. They said that they have benefited a lot from the competition and gained a deeper understanding on expanding Macao’s international cooperation, and will do their best to make contributions to the development of the Motherland and Macao in the future.
