On August 31, the opening ceremony of “Heroic Souls Cast in the Vast Sky — Exhibition on the Historical Facts of Aviation during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (Macao Tour)” was successfully held. The exhibition was jointly organized by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR, the Nanjing Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Administration Bureau, the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), and the Macao Historical Society. Commissioner Ms. Bian Lixin and Ms. O Lam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks. Deputy Director Yang Weiqun of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Deputy Commander Dai Jinsong of the People’s Liberation Army Macao Garrison, and more than 100 representatives from Macao’s educational and cultural sectors as well as secondary school teachers and students attended the event.

Commissioner Ms. Bian Lixin said that the exhibition is focused on presenting the heroic epic of the Chinese people’s bloody and valiant struggle against aggression and recalling the touching stories of aviation heroes from various countries who fought side by side with Chinese soldiers and civilians. Both the spirit of the Flying Tigers, which embodies the friendship between China and the United States during the War of Resistance, and the glorious history of Macao, a small city with great righteousness, will help Macao compatriots, especially young people, ignite their patriotic enthusiasm, broaden their international vision, and forge ahead with resolve and courage on the journey of building a great motherland and a beautiful Macao.

Secretary Ms. O Lam said that, inspired by the great spirit of the War of Resistance, all sectors of the Macao society should remain firm in conviction, take on responsibilities through concrete actions, and continue to write a new chapter of the high-quality development of the cause of One Country, Two Systems in Macao.

Ms. Xue Lian, curator of the Nanjing Anti-Japanese Aviation Martyrs Memorial Hall (administered by the Nanjing Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Administration Bureau), introduced the main contents of the exhibition via video. Mr. Gao Demin, son of Ms. Huang Huanxiao (a nurse working for the Flying Tigers with the nickname of “Hump Angel”), shared touching stories of his mother. A student representative said that the Macao youth will strive to turn their admiration for the martyrs into concrete actions of studying hard, serving the motherland and embracing the world.

The exhibition is open to the public from August 31 to September 7 at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex in Macao.
