On November 11, 2025, Commissioner Liu Xianfa met with Federico Lage, Consul General of Uruguay in Hong Kong.

Commissioner Liu said that Uruguay is China's good friend and partner. The two countries have delivered fruitful outcomes in cooperation in various fields. The just-concluded Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee proposed recommendations for China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. China is willing to share opportunities and seek common development with Uruguay and other countries. Over the past 25 years after its return to the motherland, the Macao SAR has achieved an enormous success in advancing the cause of “One Country, Two Systems” with distinctive Macao features. It's believed that as the first Consul General of Uruguay in Hong Kong, Mr. Lage will play an active role in promoting practical cooperation between the Macao SAR and Uruguay. The Commissioner's office is ready to offer necessary support and assistance.

Mr. Federico Lage said that Uruguay attaches great importance to developing the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and the two countries have broad prospects for cooperation in various fields. Uruguay is willing to enhance communication and exchanges with the Macao SAR government to promote more achievements in areas as trade and economic, infrastructure, science and technology, and people-to-people exchange.
