On April 13, Commissioner Bian Lixin met with the newly-appointed Ambassador of the Portuguese Republic to China Manuel Cansado de Carvalho. Consul General of Portugal in Macao Alexandre Leitão attended the meeting.

Bian welcomed Manuel Cansado de Carvalho on his assumption of the new post in China. She said China and Portugal enjoy a profound traditional friendship. In recent years,the two countries have enhanced political mutual trust and achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation. China's 15th Five-Year Plan will create opportunities for countries around the world, including Portugal, and chart the course for Macao’s future. The Central Government supports the Macao SAR in deepening exchanges and cooperation with Portugal across various fields. The Commissioner's Office will continue to help Macao better leverage the role as a bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and continuously enrich the China-Portugal comprehensive strategic partnership.
Manuel Cansado de Carvalho said Portugal is pleased to see the success of the "one country, two systems" policy in Macao. He believed that under the guidance of the China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, Macao will embrace greater development. Portugal is willing to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with China across various fields, jointly expand cooperation with Macao as a platform, and promote the development of the China-Portugal comprehensive strategic partnership.
