On May 28th, Commissioner Bian Lixin attended the annual reception hosted by the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr. Sam Hou Fai, for Consuls General in Macao and Hong Kong and representatives of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao. For the first time, an innovative format was adopted for the reception by featuring a promotional briefing, to comprehensively showcase the significant achievements resulting from the successful implementation in Macao of the “one country, two systems” principle, as well as to promote the opportunities offered by Macao and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Consuls General and representatives from more than 60 countries and international organizations based either in Macao or Hong Kong attended the event.

During a speech, Mr. Sam Hou Fai stated that the SAR government is actively and closely coordinating with the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan, to formulate and implement the Third Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the MSAR. This will provide a broader space for further deepening cooperation between Macao and various countries. In June this year, Macao will host the APEC Tourism Ministers’ Meeting again after a 12-year hiatus, further demonstrating its role as an important bridge connecting China and the world. It is hoped that all countries will make good use of the synergized advantages of Macao and Hengqin, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, so as to achieve complementary advantages and mutual benefit and win-win results.

When interacting with foreign guests, Ms. Bian Lixin encouraged them to enhance communication and coordination with the MSAR government, and promote investment, business operations, tourism, and cultural exchanges by enterprises and personnel from their respective countries, with the aim of expanding practical cooperation in various fields with Macao. The Commissioner’s office will continue to provide support and assistance for foreign institutions based in Macao and Hong Kong in performing their duties.
