The 6th Macao Universities Diplomatic Speech Contest was Successfully Held

On May 31, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macao SAR and the Macao SAR Government jointly held the final of the 6th Macao Universities Diplomatic Speech Contest with the theme of “Leveraging the Distinctive Institutional and Cultural Strengths of Macao to Promote the Implementation of the Global Governance Initiative” at Macao Polytechnic University. Commissioner Bian Lixin, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ms. O Lam, Spokesperson of the MFA and Director General of the Information Department of the MFA Ms. Mao Ning, and representatives of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, the People’s Liberation Army Macao Garrison, the Macao SAR Education and Youth Development Bureau attended the event and presented awards to the winners. Over 200 teachers and students from 8 SAR universities, youth associations, and student representatives watched the competition on site.

Mao Ning said the Macao youth grow up in a place where Chinese and Western civilizations converge, and inherently possess the advantage of being able to communicate with the outside world. She encouraged students to make more contributions to presenting the successful practice of “one country, two systems” and the stories of China, and building more bridges for the world to better understand China.

O Lam expected the Macao youth to bear the country’s most fundamental interests in mind, improve the ability of international communication, and make contributions to both the high-quality development of the cause of “one country, two systems” and Chinese modernization.

Bian Lixin encouraged the Macao youth to remain mindful of President Xi Jinping’s earnest expectations, make persistent efforts, work diligently and keep forging ahead, in order to make full use of the opportunities to bring out the best in them, and shoulder the historic mission of serving the motherland and building Macao. The Commissioner’s Office will continue to utilize diplomatic resources and support the Macao youth in fully exerting their talents to make more achievements on the international arena.

Students from City University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macao Polytechnic University, and Macao University of Tourism won the first, second, third and fourth prize respectively. They said that they have deepened understanding of the Global Governance Initiative and the distinctive strengths of Macao through the Contest, and will try their best to expand the international exchanges for Macao and share the stories of China to the world.
